I'd like to say that
Smeagol (serious story spoilers in that link for the third movie if you never read the books) has got to be the most amazing computer graphic character EVER used in a film. Absolutely
perfectly realized in every aspect. Hopefully none of the people I'm going to see
The Two Towers with tonight gets wind of the fact that I got invited to a midnight showing last night! They'd freakin' kill me! I am still really pissed 'cause the idiot running the projector screwed up the sound and we missed an entire scene right after they started the film back up after the intermission...but that's kinda cool since now there still is something new for me to see with the gang.
My review? Same as last year at this point. Give me a day or so to wrap my head around it just like it took with the Fellowship movie. It's not the same movie, the pace is much different. Very rapid and rushed at points and extremely slow and detailed at others. Jackson did a great job of handling three separate stories at the same time though: well, almost four if you count the opening scene. The opening scene. The opening scene absolutely blew my mind! Not what I expected. I'm not sure what I did expect concerning that part of the story but that wasn't it and, once again, Jackson absolutely blew my mind by tackling something I wouldn't have expected. I won't mention it yet since many still haven't seen the movie but I will spoil it a bit...if you love the very beginning, wait until you see
the rest of the story on that scene. Absolutely friggin' awesome!
My quick review is this: damn, the extended version won't be out until November! I wonder if we'll get two tower bookends with the
Collector's Gift Set next year?
